2016 challenge completed. Now for the scary part.

I challenged myself in 2016 to read 30 books. I ended up reading 31 (and a half)!

As happy as I am about achieving my goal, now it’s time for the hard part.

My challenge for 2017 is start writing myself. This year my focus will be on short stories, but my long term plan is craft a novel. I don’t know if the end goal is to be an author one day, or if I will be happy at finishing just one story, for me.

Time will tell.

For as long as I can remember I’ve loved writing. And I’ve always thought it was a gift that came naturally to me.

But now as I get older, reality sinks in and I realise I haven’t written for pleasure in a very, very long time, and I’m not even sure I’m capable any more. Full-time work in marketing has drained me of creativity – at least that’s what it feels like. And though I can write copy for websites, articles, blogs, advertising, social media and more, I’ve just forgotten how to write for myself.

So it’s time to knuckle down and take it seriously!

#WritingGoals2017

My aim is to write a short story each week for this year. We’ll see how that goes I suppose. I hope to try different styles and genres to find out what feels good and what works for me.

It’s time for this blog to change, its look and feel as well as its function. I’ll still be posting up book reviews as I finish books, but there won’t be nearly as many this year because I’m busy writing! That’s right, while my head was previously buried in a book on my commute to work, now I’ll be writing away. I will also post excerpts or full short stories of my own up here to document my progress.

There are exciting and slightly daunting times ahead of me.

Let’s do it.

  1. I wish you the best of luck. I’ve set a goal to read 75 books this year and have set myself weekly reading goals and monthly reading goals along with that too. I love reading so much that I do this anyway without realising! I’ve follow your blog! Can’t wait to see how things work out for you!
